Mini Cinnamon Churros

What the hell? I lived 25 miles from the Mexican border for 3 months and never once saw these. It wasn’t until I visited my local Western PA Wal-Mart, a place where you’re 10x more likely to come across a Mennonite than anyone who speaks Spanish, that I came across what appers to be Latin America’s answer to Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

The left gives the history of the Churro. The right says that American Children are fat.

Post asking consumers to compare Mini Churros to Cinnamon Toast Crunch is like kind of like me asking to be compared to Antonio Banderas. Sure, I have similar good looks and suave moves, but the chances of them being on Par with Desperado are lower than this cereals $2.65 price tag.  Despite my reservations, I had to make sure I wasn’t missing out on cereal greatness, so I threw them in the basket and did my best to recall 3 semesters of Spanish.

Mini Churros

My first thought was Taco Bell’s Cinnamon Twists, they don’t have nearly the same amount of oil, but otherwise the ingredients and taste are damn near identical. The consistency is closest to Honey-Comb, light, airy, and crisp.

In comparison to Cinnamon Toast Crunch – they’re not that good. I prefer Cinnamon Toast Crunch’s texture, and slightly stronger, more complex flavor. Yes, I’m talking about the complexity of Kiddie-Cereal, and yes I am absolutely serious. Seriously. Cerealsly.  Take a look at the ingredient lists, I’m suspecting it’s the addition of rice flour in CTC that’s making the difference.

Making Cheerios look super-mini

Despite them falling short of one of the best cereals known to man, these Mini Churros aren’t bad. I’m sure I’ll finish the box, even enjoy it; but it hasn’t worked it’s way into my normal cereal rotation.

DUDE! I found these and Wal-Mart too and bought a box. I love ‘em, mostly because I pop a few while killing time at work and like to suck the cinnamon sugar. I actually liked the puffed nature of them. Yea, CTC is classic, but they have less snackability in my mind, and I eat a crapload of cereal out of sandwich bags. Love Post cereals though.

Only a C? Cerealy?

I had to. I haaaaaad to.
They look like mutated cherrios.

I saw these the other day and almost bought them to review. Glad you took the hit instead. And I’m glad you are elevating the children’s cereal dialogue to the heights that it should be. Great write up. Cerealsly was genius.

Haha this was well written and funny, man. The cereal sounds intersting… maybe better as a snack then with milk.

Remember French Toast Crunch? The real kind- that actually looked like little toast pieces. That was good stuff

bummmerrrr. I <3 both churros and taco bell cinnamon twists (only thing Ill eat at tbell actually). its probably better this isn't amazing tasting, bc I NEVER saw this at an store and if it tasted so good I would feel left out :) haha

I prefer Cinnamon Burst Cheerios over these. CTC is still God amongst cinnamon flavored cereals though.

10 grams of sugar sounds pretty low for a Churro based cereal. I expected more. I always pass these over at WalMart (have been there for a long time) fearing too much sugar. I guess I should just check the label next time.

I’m glad that you have confidence in your looks. I’ll try the cereal later.

Adam – I think they would do well in a snack mix, or even packaged dry. They’re not a bad kiddy cereal, but I wasn’t tempted to have another bowl.

Katie – yeah, when you think of them that way it’s like the cereal equivalent to corn smut. Eww.

Steve – thank you my friend, they’re not bad but trying to compare themselves to CTC was a mistake. It got my attention, but also highlighted their faults.

Chuck – I certainly do and it’s been far too long, they’re still available in Canada – I just may pay the premium to get a hold of them.

Lisa – you’ll probably like them if that’s the case. But do yourself a favor and get a soft taco to get along with it – classic.

Erick, agreed. CTC can’t be touched, next comes cinnamon burst, and then cinnamon honey bunches of oats.

Thomas – I don’t think sugar is really the bad guy in terms of nutrition – rice krispies and such will likely have the same effect on blood sugar, and the whole GI thing is largely irrelevant when it comes to mixed meals. Enjoy it all in moderation :)

Shannon – Thanks, I don’t really look like Mr. Banderas. We’re just on a comparable level of handsome- bastardness, sauvivity, and general bad-assedness. Now if only I could get my acting down, I could make my millions from movies rather than the thousands this site makes.

Any cereal with cinnamon in sounds pretty good to me, although I dont like the look of the texture of the Churros one so much..it looks a bit..puffy and aerated.

I’m glad you reviewed these. I almost passed up my fave cereal (Rice Krispies Treats Cereal) to give these a try the last time I saw them. Glad to see I made the right choice by sticking with my favorite late night snack cereal.

Ya know what. You gave it a C, I give you a F. This cereal rocks. You might like square cereal but I love churros. I went crazy when I found out that they made a cereal of churros. It was like heaven in a box. I have bought alot of stuff for churros and this cereal comes so close to buying one from a stand. Add hot milk, I love it. We even tried putting them in the oven to heat then up and stuff. Basically, If you love churros you will love this cereal. The box may say compare it to another brand. BUT compare it to a hot fresh churro ! Not some other brand, think out side the box (square). Yeah, like someone already said, they do kind of look like a mutated cheerio. I use them as alot of things but mainly breakfast and as a snack. They are great for kids (deff. not babies), bite size pieces. In 1 cup there is only 130 Calories. Which, when looking at a cereal most of them (not all) say a 3/4 cup. The box is half in English and half in Spanish, which I find very cool. You learn new things every day. On one side there is Q & A’s about churros. I love the history of the churro, which is on the back of the box. I give them an A.

I give this amazing cereal an A !
There is no comparison to CTC, which is also delicious but miles away on taste and texture. Churros has HUGE crunch to it. Not for small children.
Makes a great snack.
Low on sugar and fat.
