Ever since reading about the coming of a limited edition Twix Coconut on candyblog I had been searching the aisles for it’s release. As weeks passed my excitement began to dwindle. I nearly forgot about them entirely until receiving an E-mail from a representative asking if I would like to review a free sample. Does a bear shit in the woods? Coconut has become a favorite flavor of mine, and I’ve loved candy from strangers ever since I was a kid. The situation could have only been made better if we made arrangements to look for a lost dog.

Well no puppies, or even a van ride (miss those) but I did get some nifty Twix schwag. When you find these in stores you won’t be receiving the quality plastic coconut cup/container or the ultra-sleek and ultra-professional Twix thumb-drive that I did. No need to worry, those and the re-usable grocery bag that I failed to photograph will not influence grading in any way.
Now I mentioned that coconut is a favorite and I’ve always enjoyed Twix, but I’ve made the mistake of over expectation before. This time, I did my best to withhold any preconceived notion that the sum of these two independently awesome things would automatically result in some other-worldly confection.
When I opened the package there was no immediate coconut smell. It wasn’t until I broke the pieces apart that I picked up a mild and artificial coconut scent. As you can see from the picture above, there is no difference in the actual structure of the coconut edition than that of a traditional Twix.
It’s the same cookie, caramel, chocolate confection, the only difference being the artificial coconut flavor that I believe has been added to the caramel. The coconut flavor itself was just like the scent – mild and artificial. That’s not to say it was bad, I’d put it in the same category coconut M&Ms which I like. I’m not so sure that coconut and caramel are the most complimentary of flavors, but they aren’t offensive.
As for ingredients and nutrition, it’s a candy bar. I like that Mars has made it a point to use real chocolate as opposed to the mockalate found with many mass produced candies. I just wish that they would apply that same attention to quality to their oil choice (hydrogenated in this case).
I certainly wasn’t wowed. It just wasn’t different enough than the standard to really get excited about. Maybe if it had coconut shreds, or a coconut cookie base – just something more than a bit of artificial flavor. If you’re a fan of coconut M&Ms and Twix, you’ll know what to expect and likely enjoy it. I just doubt that it will be a frequent purchase.

JIM
Oh wow coconut twix, i’ve tried the coconut m&ms and wasnt a huge fan tasted a bit artificial for me, would be interested to see what the coconut twix was like though.
Cool, I got the same kit from Mars. Your review makes me want to review it now, I was a little hesitant because I hated the M&M’s Coconut. Great Review!
Thanks, Mark. I’m not sure you’re going to be the biggest fan if you didn’t like M&Ms
Will these be available in the UK as well? Apparently they found all of us, haha.
Who do I contact to get a free Twix Coconut Press Kit? I’ve been wanting to try the new Twix Coconut for weeks now but the grocery and convenience stores in my are don’t carry it. I asked the branch managers at the stores I shop at to stock it but I have yet to see it. Twix Java is my favorite but my local Fred Meyer only stocked it for a few weeks then it disappeared.
Sorry Cathy, I think these were sent out to product reviewers only. I’m yet to see them in the Pittsburgh area so perhaps distribution has just been a bit slow.
it’s AISLES, not isles. Unless you really have been Island hopping looking for these. In which case you need help.
You left me with an easy out -where else would I find coconuts?! Thanks for reading and the copy editing.
Twix coconut..tastey here in Florida =0)
Well, I absolutely loved it! I honestly don’t eat chocolate much but looooved this.
OMG These are so yummy! They taste like a light version of Girl Scouts Samoas. I ended up buying a box of them and hiding them from my roommates.
I just tried the Coconut twix and unfortunatly I have to say YUCK!
There is a slight taste resembling gasoline… maybe that is the artificial coconut, or maybe a combination of ingredients. Either way, for me this was an experiment gone bad.
I love the Coconut Twix. Tastes like a Starbuck’s Coconut Mocha Frap! YUMMO!
I think by “complimentary” you mean “complementary.”
OH MAN!! you’re crazy. The Coconut Twix was amazing! The only problem with them, is that they were out for such a little time. I’d kill…err..maim someone for one! Mmmmmm sooooo good.
I absolutely love the Twix Coconut candy bar!! I don’t usually eat the caramel Twix, but I love the Coconut Twix candy bar. It’s a winner!! Take this from a real chocolate connoisseur.
Walgreens have it.
A layer of real coconut and a dark chocolate coat would have made this the tastiest twix in town.
